Duct Tape

My husband was pretty tired on Sunday afternoon.

The kids were playing nicely downstairs.

He settled in his chair to sneak a nap.

The kids must have sensed that someone was trying to rest.  Maybe they have internal alarms that go off when a parent is trying to take a nap.  Maybe they just happened to walk through the living room and notice him.  Maybe they were wondering where he went.
Anyway, the kids started whispering.
They grabbed their rolls of duct tape.
They went to work.

They are still young enough to believe that their daddy is actually sleeping.

Grow Up!

We are studying space this year in science.

Our dinner conversation last night was about NASA and how my son decided today that he wants to be a NASA engineer when he grows up.  He thinks it would be AWESOME to work on the rockets, satellites, or space shuttles.

My four-year-old daughter then asked me what I want to be when I grow up.

Hmmmmm, that's a good question.

I drew a few conclusions from this conversation.

1) My kids obviously think I still have growing up to do.
2) My kids realize that they have many, many options of what they want to do when they grow up.  This is awesome!
3) I don't think we ever get there - being grown up, I mean.  We are always maturing and learning.  I hope my kids can get this as they work on growing up in my household.
4) Kids are perceptive, fun, and entertaining.  I am reminded of this every day.  I love it!

Santa

My son brought up the subject of Christmas gifts today.  It's March, so I told my kids that we don't really need to talk about Christmas gifts for at LEAST another six months.

My four-year-old dryly added her comment.  "Yeah, and Santa is dead."

Last Christmas we told the story of St. Nicholas (the original Santa) who used to give gifts to orphans...and who lived long ago.

AHHHHHHHH!  What am I teaching my children?!?!?!
